The Power of the Class 57 - Railway DVD
In 1997 Freightliner ordered an initial six Class 57 locomotives from Brush Traction, Loughborough. The Class 57 diesel locomotives are re-engineered and rebuilt redundant Class 47's.
The first three locomotives entered service in July 1998 wearing the new Freightliner green livery. After proving successful Freightliner ordered six more locomotives bringing their fleet to twelve locomotives. They rapidly replaced class 47's on long distance container trains.
In 2000, a prototype locomotive was ordered by Porterbrook for use on passenger services with electric train heating. This locomotive, 57602 was leased to First Great Western in 2001 for use between Paddington and the South West.
This exclusive DVD features footage of all 12 original Freightliner locos filmed between 1999 and 2002. We also see Porterbrook 57601 on test in 2001 before entering service on loco hauled workings on the Great Western Main Line.
