South Wales Railfreight 1998 - 1999 -Railway DVD
This double DVD features over 125 locomotive workings at three freight hotspots around Newport, South Wales. Filmed over several visits between 1998 - 1999 we see a variety of freight including iron ore, steel, engineers, coal, fly ash, oil, LPG, mail, enterprise, acid tanks, light engine and double headed workings.
Alexandra Dock Junction is located on the main line between Newport and Cardiff. As well as the junction to Alexandra Docks, it is also the location for the junction to Ebbw Vale, and also boasted extensive sidings. Filmed in 1998 the area is a hive of activity with large volumes of freight up and down the branches, and along the main line. Locomotive classes include 09, 37, 47, 56, 59 & 60.
Maindee West Junction lies just to the east of Newport station and is the junction connecting the South Wales Main Line and the Welsh Marches Line. Overlooking the River Usk and the junction we see a variety of freight and light engine movements with classes 09, 37, 47, 56, 59, 60 & 66.
East Usk Yard is approximately one mile to the east of Newport station, adjacent to the South Wales Main Line. In 1999 this was a busy location to capture loco-hauled freight & passenger workings, and we see an endless procession of coal, steel, iron ore and oil tankers, as well as mail trains and engineers vehicles.
