LMS Black 5 45212 with Steam Dreams 'Cathedrals Express' 8th March 2018
On 8th March 2018 Steam Dreams (STDR) ran another "Cathedrals Express" excursion from Horsham to Sherborne. Diesel hauled from Horsham to Willesden then hauled by "Black 5" Steam locomotive 45212. A class LMS 5MT 4-6-0. looking absolutely splendid, unassisted the locomotive arrived at her destination spot on time. The train (1Z16) ran via Willesden, Reading, Basingstoke and Salisbury. and was witnessed by myself at Basingstoke and then Sherborne in Dorset. I then drove down to Yeovil Junction where I spent a few hours watching 45212 being serviced and checked over before her return run to Sherborne and then Horsham, leaving 45212 at Hanwell and again being hauled by a diesel locomotive for the remainder of the trip. Yeovil Railway Centre's lovingly restored Ruston & Hornsby 0-4-0 diesel shunter did the shunting of 45212's support coach and the weather remained a beautifully bright winter's day. Several London Waterloo/Exeter St.Davids services appear in this video, being hauled by South West Trains liveried class 159 DMU's. Later again spot on schedule 45212 departs with the return working as 5Z18/1Z18 to Sherborne and Horsham in low sunlight.
