DB Cargo 66177 with 'The Heart Of Wales Wanderer' railtour 18th March 2017
On 18th March 2017 Pathfinder Tours ran a special train by the name of "The Heart Of Wales Wanderer" leaving from Eastleigh in Hampshire to Llandrindod in Wales via Havant, Guildford, Reading, Newport, Port Talbot, Hendy Jn, over Sugar Loaf Summit and onto Llandrindod. The return working carried along the Central Wales Line to Craven Arms, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Tame Bridge and back through Didcot, Reading, Guildford and Havant finally arriving in Eastleigh late at night. The train was hauled by Locomotive 66238 from Eastleigh to Newport where Derby RTC class 97's loco's 97301 + 97302 took over to Llandrindod, unfortunately the train started to lose time from Margam and finally arrived in Llandrindod over 1 hour late. Loco 97301 was declared a failure which resulted in 97302 hauling the train single handed to Bescot where EWS locomotive 66177 took over for the remainder of her journey. The train had around a 45 minute late start, but managed to not lose any more time on the return leg. I nipped out in the night to capture the round trip as she paused at Petersfield Station to set down passengers after a very long day. Due to me chasing after "Black Five" 45407 I did not get to see any of the class 37 (97) haulage, nor of the tour in daylight, maybe next time...
