An Interesting Morning at Godalming 23/02/2011
I braved the drizzle on the 23rd February 2011 to film a Network Rail test train that I had been told was running through Godalming Station. The first run (1Q82) passed through Godalming at 0736, shortly after an SWT stopping service to Portsmouth had left (the reason for the slow speed), with 73138 and 73107 'Redhill 1844 - 1994' providing the traction. The train returned at 1015 (running as 1Q60). After the test train had gone, I decided to hang around the station for a little longer, and was rewarded with 6Y32, the Fawley to Holybourne crude oil train. This was worked by 66069, and is the only scheduled freight service to use the Portsmouth Direct line. The train runs twice a week, usually on Wednesday and Friday. The outbound train passes Godalming during the morning, returning to Eastleigh in the evening (running as 6Y33).
